Exclusive Skyscrapers

Exclusive Skyscrapers is a variant of the classic Skyscrapers puzzle, invented by Anurag Sahay in 2023. While it preserves some of the familiar Skyscraper flavor, the puzzle introduces radically different logical elements that significantly altering the logical approach.

In this variant, numbers outside the grid indicate either of two quantities: the number of even-height buildings or the number of odd-height buildings visible from that direction. This dual interpretation creates unique solving patterns, as odd and even clues behave differently, requiring a combination of numerical reasoning and positional logic.

Exclusive Skyscrapers is particularly suited to odd-sized grids, where the interplay of parity and building visibility generates rich deductive possibilities. The puzzle challenges solvers to rethink classic Skyscraper strategies while still rewarding intuition developed from the original rules.

Rules

Insert a digit from 1 to 5 into every cell, so that each digit appears once in each row and column . Each digit in a cell represents the height of a building. Numbers outside the grid indicate either of two quantities - how many buildings of even height a distant observer could see or how many buildings of odd height a distant observer could see in that row or column (both quantities may have the same value). A building will hide any shorter buildings behind it. Clues are unlabeled - which skyscrapers they represent has to be determined as the puzzle is solved.
