Search Max Sudoku is a variant of classic Sudoku first proposed by Dutch puzzle composer Richard Stolk in February 2013 for WPF Sudoku Gran Prix competition under the original name “Search Nine.”
The puzzle follows standard Sudoku rules, but introduces arrow clues that add a spatial layer to the logic. Each arrow points along a row, column, or diagonal direction, and the number attached to the arrow indicates the distance from the arrow to the cell containing the maximum digit in that direction.
Rules
Fill in the grid with digits from 1 to 6 putting one digit per a cell. Each row, column and outlined area should contain every digit exactly once. The given arrows point to the number 6 in that row or column, and the digits on the arrows show the distance to number 6.
